About Me

Welcome!  I’m Dawn and have wanted to be a veterinarian for about as long as I can remember.  Animals saved my life repeatedly through the years and I want to do the same for them or at least make their lives better.  For those who love animals or wish to be a veterinarian, I hope to inspire you to see that any dream is possible when you won’t let go of it. I also want to provide you with resources to help you succeed.

For all of my years as a veterinarian, I’ve been serving on active duty in the Army. I’m board certified in both laboratory animal medicine and preventive medicine and have a master’s degree in public health.  Yes, that’s a lot of credentials and whatnot beyond vet school.  Through my stories you may come to understand my quest for overachieving.  It’s something I’m only beginning to understand myself=:)

As for home, my husband, 3 daughters, and I share our lives with 3 horses, 2 mini-pigs, 2 cats, and 3 dogs.  At one point, we even had 5 guinea pigs!  Besides family and animals, I love yoga, road biking, and have a soft spot for elderly dogs.  Originally from the city of Philadelphia, I still have a bit of scrappy that helped me hang on to becoming a veterinarian and has proven useful in the Army, too.

Disclaimer: this site isn’t for medical advice and, since many of my stories go back to when I was very young, it’s possible I did the exact wrong thing for some of the animals in my stories.  The stories on this site are my personal experiences.  My brother, friends, parents, and anyone else may tell their side of things somewhat differently.  Since I work for the government, nothing here should be seen as endorsed by, taken to be an official  position, or as anything other than my own experiences.  Know that when it comes to people, I change names when it seems that’s best.  When it comes to animals, I can’t think why changing names would be necessary, but I may do that as well.
